The United Kingdom Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is being rolled out in stages for travelers from specific countries. The scheme began with a small number of nationalities and has gradually expanded to include additional non-European and European countries over time. As the rollout progresses, more travelers are required to obtain an ETA before travelling to the UK, either to visit, transit or enter through eligible routes.
The ETA requirement was first introduced for Qatari nationals on 15 November 2023. From 1 February 2024, nationals of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Jordan became eligible to apply for an ETA, with the requirement applying to travel from 22 February 2024. In September 2024, Jordan was removed from the list of eligible nationalities. On 27 November 2024, the UK expanded the ETA scheme to an additional 49 non-European countries. The most recent update, implemented on 5 March 2025, added 34 European countries whose nationals could begin applying for a UK ETA from that date. Since 2 April 2025, travelers from these countries must hold a valid ETA before travelling to the United Kingdom. Below, you will find what you need to apply and the step-by-step process to submit your UK ETA application online.
